Nigeria
Nigerian militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, have announced their return to social media platform Twitter. Their former account (@NDAvengers) was suspended by Twitter citing breach of their community rules.
The new account created in July 2016 bears the name of the groups’ spokesperson, Mudoch Agbinibo. The group noted that not even Twitter could block their struggle. ‘‘Twitter can block or suspend our account but they can’t stop or block our struggle,’‘ they said.
The announcement of the new account comes exactly a month after the initial blackout of July 4. The group resorted to using their website to communicate their views and attacks on oil installations.
In their latest statement titled ‘We are not intimidated,’ the group condemned the Nigerian military for ‘‘playing some war game on some illegal bunkering camps and showing video of how they carry out the bombardment.’‘
According to them, no matter the sophistication of the attacks, they were not going to stop fighting for the people of the oil rich region.
They also accused the government of refusing to heed to their restructuring calls. ‘‘The only group of persons against the restructuring is the Villa (presidency). The federal government should just listen to the voice of the citizens instead of playing the deaf ear game,’‘ the statement continued.
